St Serf or servanus as he was known as then in the six century came to Tillicoultry
To spread Christianity . It is said he performed many miracles . One of which was
To bring back to life two of Tillicoultry’s young men .
Pre-Industrial revolution Iron , silver , copper , lead and cobolt were mined
On the slopes of the Ochil Hills and in the 16th century woolen serge was produced
And sold far and wide .
At the top of Tillicoultry Glen to the West of the burn there once stood a Pictish Fort
It is said that the stones of the Fortress were taken the 9 miles to be added to
Stirling Castle . The Romans had a camp on the north end of Cuninghar .
In the middle of the 19th century Sir Robert Stuart dug up several Urns
Containing human bones . In 1785 a large stone coffin was discovered in a
Great cairn ( mound of stones ) in Westerton previously called Cairntown
Inside was fine ash or dust and two small bones . Many small Urns have been found
To the West of Tillicoultry on what used to be called the Alva Estate .
The Parish population table of 1792 gives the total population as 853

In1793 employment in the mines increased to 64 Miners and 10 Women Bearers
Since the begining of the 19th century Tillicoultry has produced Blankets , shawls
Tartans , Paper , Coal , Sheep , Farming and Quarrying .
